What We Explore Together…

You’ve studied the fundamentals. You’ve filled your toolbox with technique, theory, and hard-won lessons. And yet sometimes all that knowledge gets in the way. The goal of this group is to help you set it down long enough to actually paint.

This isn’t about mimicking a master or chasing someone else’s aesthetic. It’s about uncovering what’s already in you — your instincts, your voice, your unique way of seeing the world and putting it onto a surface. The question we keep coming back to is simple: what does your painting look like?

Creative ideas don’t arrive fully formed. They surface through process, through drawing, mark-making, layering, and the small decisions that shape a painting into something real. Whether you start with a photograph, a sketch, or something more spontaneous, the principles you’ve already absorbed — value, shape, edge, colour, composition, texture — become the invisible scaffolding beneath something genuinely expressive.

In this group we’ll experiment, try unconventional starting points, and explore varied surfaces including paper, wood, canvas, metal and plastic. A more open, exploratory start can unlock a more personal interpretation of your subject matter and shake loose habits that may be holding you back.

The aim is discovery, not perfection. Let’s find your way together.
